Anniversary
Dear Readers,
It's hard to
believe that time has passed so quickly. Back in February of 2002,
our introductory editorial said "The publication of this
Magazine at this stage of rapid growth and when the country is committing
itself to introduce and utilize the Technology for meaningful economic
and social development will certainly be accorded a warm welcome
by the promoters and users of ICT." In fact, all ICT users
have warmly welcomed the Magazine. It has been widely acclaimed
here at home and abroad for its advocacy on various ICT issues and
the dissemination of skills and knowledge among the wider segment
of the society. Our commitment to see each and every user be able
to turn the technology into tools that will help them find solutions
to concrete problems is highly appreciated.
We appreciate
the fact that in just one year, ICT Focus has been welcomed into
your lives. Your ideas and opinions have always been welcomed, and
for those who communicated with us, your thoughts are reflected
within our pages. It is for you that the magazine exists. You have
provided us with encouragement, fair criticism, story ideas and
tips.
We have endeavored
to strengthen people's ability to use the technology to the full.
We have made available the columns of the magazine to ICT promoters
and professionals to expound their views and opinions about the
potentials of ICT for economic and social transformation with application
in specific areas such as health, agriculture and education through
an ICT Policy and a regulatory framework that are essential for
the realization of an efficient and liberalized ICT environment.
The Magazine
has also served as a forum for the debate surrounding ICT Policy
and standardization of ICT Training: the prevalence of ethical standards
and codes of conduct with regard to the provision of products and
services. It has also propounded the efficient utilization of resources
for the supply and installation of ICT systems in government services,
public sector organizations and organizations to derive optimal
benefits from their investments and ensure sustainable management
of the ICT sector. It has contributed a lot to introduce new products
and services developed by Ethiopian ICT professionals to potential
customers.
It is in recognition
of these major achievements and ambitious plans for the future that
we are celebrating the 1st Anniversary of the launching of ICT Focus
on February 8, 2003.
