ICT
Training Revisited: Debates on Ethics and Standardization
At the moment, there are no clear measures of quality performance
being developed and clear guidelines are lacking to maintain
and develop quality in this field.
How
Keen Are You in Choosing Your ICT Service Provider
Once the need for an ICT service is established, the Management
should be cautious to select the service provider. At the
outset, managers have to learn a lot about the processes of
choosing an ICT service provider in order to get satisfactory
services. .
Good
Trainers must be Good People
While technical and presentation skills can be learned in
a matter of weeks, a professional trainer must also display
strong interpersonal skills. But which ones are the most crucial?
.
Hardware
to Back Up Your Data
You shouldnt rely on your hard drive as the only means
of saving your data. Fires, floods, computer viruses, human
error, and theft can destroy your hard drive and computer,
but if you back up your data on a regular basis, you can recover
your losses quickly. Well walk you through the safety
drill and demonstrate the merits of various hardware products
that may save you from having to re-create your important
information from scratch.

Electrical Engineering does not only play a key role
in the development of ICT, but we can neither perceive Electrical
Engineering in isolation from ICT nor can ICT grow without
it as its base. Dr. Mohamed Abdo

Note
A half-day
Workshop, organized by the Ethiopian Information Technology
Professionals Association (EITPA) on Basic IT Training
in Ethiopia was held at the UN Conference Centre on
April 16, 2002. It was claimed that the Workshop was one of
the most successful events in the existence of the Association.
There
were two presentations that stimulated lively discussions
among the participants. The variations in course duration
and fees, admission criteria and attendance were some of the
important points that were brought to the attention of the
private ICT training centers. On the other hand, ethical issues,
standardization and accreditation were cited as the other
issues of concern for the growth of the ICT profession.
The problem
related to the growth and development of ICT in Ethiopia could
not be solved overnight. It needs imagination and collaboration,
and similar workshops and discussion forums should be organized
to bring all stakeholders together to form a common purpose.
It is our hope that EITPA, with the active participation of
its members and other stakeholders would be able to face the
challenges in its endeavours to lay the foundation to ensure
a sustainable ICT sector in Ethiopia.
