HilCoE College Inaugurates its Second Batch of Graduates

HilCoE , the first IT College in Ethiopia, graduated a total of 101 students on February 2002 for the second time since its establishment in 1998. The College has been offering courses for postgraduate diploma in computer science and diploma in the former and Management Information Systems (MIS) in its night and regular day classes respectively.

The admission requirement for the postgraduate study is possession of a 1st degree and above while an ESLCE result of 2.0 would make prospective candidates eligible to register for the day classes.

According to Ato Nasser Dino, the Director of the College, the students were greatly encouraged to participate in seminars, discussion groups, project administration and internship to further deepen their knowledge of the various IT courses offered to them . According to the Director, "one of the unique nature of the College is that the students are motivated to undertake several projects that provide them the opportunity to deal with practical problems of real life within private business, public enterprises, government institutions and non-governmental organizations."

The Director further emphasized the fact that the College's major concern has not been "reaping immediate return on its huge investment, but to supply the labour market by producing highly trained and all round ICT professionals through academic excellence and conventional ethics." He also recalled that the contribution that the College made to train instructors from other similar colleges was something that should be commended.

He admitted that the College had been able to graduate students who could take up professional assignments to work as "programmers, network administrators, database designers, web developers and systems analysts." The Director disclosed that 65% of the graduates who attended the postgraduate programme were employees and the rest could easily be absorbed in the labour market including international organizations at home and abroad. He recounted that some students were even able to secure jobs before graduation.

ICT Focus congratulates the graduates and wishes them every success in their professional endeavours.
