ICT
Based Knowledge Building and Management Seminar
October 23, 2003
The
Ethio-German TVET Programme together with GTZ organised a seminar
“ICT based Knowledge Building and Management” on 23
October 2003 in Addis Ababa at the premises of the “African
Virtual University”.This event intends to contribute to
the national Ethiopian efforts by bringing together Ethiopian
experts with international experts engaged in relevant reference
projects.
This Seminar
provided insights into programmes of German development cooperation
in the field of ICT based “Knowledge Building and Management”.
It also included lessons learnt from “Knowledge Building
and Management” projects from the educational, health care,
ICT and corporate sectors. The organizers believe that the seminar
laid the foundation for cooperation opportunities in the ICT for
Development sector in Ethiopia. They expect to create an impact
on the e-readiness of the participants and their institutions
as well as a better understanding of the specific requirements
in Ethiopia. The results of this seminar will be a draft document
for further cooperation and joint projects of the participating
Ethiopian institutions with GTZ and the Ethio-German TVET Programme.
The organizers
consider that the deployment of an “Information and Communication
Technology - ICT” infrastructure in Ethiopia is part of
the national strategy for the further enhancement of the socio-economic
effiency of the entire country. Within this strategy the introduction
of a national knowledge building system takes a first place.“This
is the reason why today networked universities, knowledge building
applications and the introduction of e-Learning are high on the
agenda in Ethiopia” said Mr Leopold Reif who led the team
of consultants.

The
Economic Commission for Africa graduated a total of 100 Ethiopian
Members of Parliament on Thursday, 27th August, on ICTs with specific
reference to e-strategies for development.
The two months training was offered to the MPs as an effort to
build the capacity of African stakeholders, which is one of the
key missions underscored by the outreach programme of ECA’s
African Information Society Initiative (AISI).
Held at the Information Technology Center for
Africa (ITCA) of the ECA, the training comprised of a series of
lectures and workshops on ICT policy issues and hands-on approaches
to using ICT applications to enhance their work as legislators.
The MPs also engaged in in-depth discussions on how to formulate
national e-strategies, with examples derived from ongoing experiences
by governments in a number of African countries.
