DED's All-Africa Conference Takes Place in Addis |
Addis Ababa 16 October 2007 - The German Development Service (DED) is holding its All-Africa Conference in Addis Ababa from 14 to 17 October 2007. Ethiopia is the biggest Partner Country for DED worldwide with fast growing numbers of Development Experts. Eight out of the thirty-five German experts are currently working in the Information and Communication assisted Development (ICTAD) Program.
The ICTAD Project is intended to assist Ethiopian communities to improve their livelihood through the use of appropriate ICT that facilitates increased access to markets, development information as well as public and private services.

| OneWebDay Celebration in Ethiopia |
Addis Ababa 15 September 2007 - ICT Focus Magazine in collaboration with the Ethiopian Information Technology Professionals Association (EITPA) is coordinating the celebration of OneWebDay in Ethiopia.
CyberCafés in Addis Ababa will make available connected computers to the public at a discounted rate on 22 and 23 September 2007. Volunteers (mainly University and College students) will help people who are new to the Internet in creating their accounts and show them how to use the web. In addition, a presentation on OneWebDay will be made on September 22 at the General Assembly of EITPA. |

The awards ceremony was broadcasted live on SABC Africa on Tuesday 11 September 2007. Recognizing the developmental opportunities offered by digital technologies and the need for developing countries and developed countries to collaborate to exploit such opportunities, the World Information Technology Forum (WITFOR) 2007 is organized by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and hosted by the Federal Government of Ethiopia, in cooperation with the Ethiopian ICT Development Agency (EICTDA), the Ethiopian Information Technology Professional Association (EITPA) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
The purpose of the conference is to help implement information development strategies and projects in developing countries. Significantly, it will take the World Summit on the Information Society's (WSIS) Plan of Action a step forward, by converting policy statements to actual, implemental projects that should help developing countries to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals. |
