Menilik II Secondary School Gets Internet Connection
According
to information from Ato Girma Mitiku, its ICT Club President, the
School has at last been able to be connected to the Internet –
being the first government school in Addis Ababa - after months
of cajoling the Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation.
According
to Ato Girma, the connection will create ample opportunities to
provide information and promote the Centenary celebration of the
School that would take place some time in 2005 to its former students
residing here at home and abroad.
The Internet connection would enable to achieve various purposes
that include the dissemination of the ICT Club’s achievement
and its needs and problems to interested public, private, international
organizations, ICT stakeholders and collaborators and creating access
to information for teachers and students for the smooth running
of the teaching-learning process. The connection could also facilitate
Internet education for students in preparatory classes. The School
Administration and members of the IT Club would be encouraged to
make full use of the Internet facility. The other interesting aspect
about the Internet facility is that it would be open to interested
teachers and students during weekends.
According
to Ato Girma, some 20 computers will be connected during the coming
Semester. The responsible Government body and some donor organizations
have promised to provide the School with computers for additional
connection.
